American Joins Delta In Offering Free Meals On Transcon Flights
by Cheryl Rosen /Joining a trend started last month by Delta, American Airlines is bringing free meals to the main cabin on transcontinental flights.
The meals will be available on flights on the A321T fleet between Los Angeles and San Francisco to the west and New York to the east, beginning May 1.
Depending on the time of day, they will include continental breakfast or a boxed meal with a sandwich wrap, kettle chips and dessert; a vegetarian option; or a fruit and cheese platter.
Delta on March 1 began serving free meals in the main cabin on flights between New York Kennedy and Los Angeles/San Francisco, and said it will expand the program in April to 10 other major domestic routes: Boston to San Francisco, Los Angeles and Seattle; Washington National to Los Angeles; New York Kennedy to San Diego, Seattle and Portland, OR; and Seattle to Fort Lauderdale, Orlando and Raleigh-Durham.
Delta offers a Honey Maple Breakfast Sandwich, Luvo Breakfast Medley, or fruit and cheese plate for breakfast, and a Mesquite-Smoked Turkey Combo, Luvo Mediterranean Whole Grain Veggie Wrap, or fruit and cheese plate later in the day.
