United Airlines Invests in New $500M Concourse at Washington Dulles

United Airlines is investing more than $500 million in a new concourse at its hub in Washington, D.C.

The airline today unveiled plans for Concourse E at Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD), a 435,000-square-foot, 14-gate space scheduled to open in late 2026. Construction is already underway.

Concourse E will feature 14 United gates connected to the rest of the airport via the Aerotrain transit system. It will also be home to a new 40,000-square-foot United Club—one of the largest in the U.S.—representing a 70% increase in size from the previous Dulles location.

While details on guest amenities remain limited, United has confirmed that the concourse will include “the latest traveler amenities and technology,” expansive gate seating, and new concessions and retail spaces.

The concourse’s size will allow United to expand its flight schedule in Washington, D.C., including accommodating the next generation of widebody and mainline aircraft introduced under its United Next plan earlier this year.

The ultimate goal for United is to have Dulles become a main transatlantic gateway, and while the new Concourse E will help it do that, the airline has already expanded service greatly from Dulles, adding seasonal nonstops to Nice and Venice, along with its first-ever flight to Dakar, Senegal, which will operate year-round starting in May.
