Hotel brands building new resorts in the Dominican Republic are choosing Miches, as the up-and-coming destination begins to have its moment.

Zemi Miches All-Inclusive Resort, Curio Collection by Hilton is set to open within the next year on Playa Esmeralda. Marriott is opening Sunrise Miches Beaches Resort in September 2024, and Viva Miches by Wyndham will open in December 2024. So, what is bringing all these big-name resort brands to Miches?

“The area offers a secluded and untouched environment compared to some of the more developed resort areas in the Dominican Republic,” Manuela Fahringer, the general manager of Zemi Miches All-Inclusive Resort, told TMR. “In addition, it is a hub for ecotourism due to its biodiversity and opportunities for activities such as birdwatching, hiking, and exploring mangrove forests making it ideal for travelers looking for sustainable and nature-focused experiences.”

Miches’ pristine beaches, lush greenery, and vibrant wildlife all make it an ideal off-the-beaten path location for vacationers who have their choice of relaxation, exploration, adventure, or all the above.

Parque Nacional Saltos de La Jalda Waterfall and Redonda and Limon Lagoon Natural Scientific Reserve are perfect spots for these types of nature-filled experiences. Another emerging Miches attraction is Montana Redonda, where adventurers go for hiking, mountain biking, and sightseeing.

“If you search that you are going to find endless video and pictures because it’s like the selfie spot now,” said Erika Sordo, Viva Resorts by Wyndham corporate director.

Sordo also recommends horseback riding and whale watching, as well as catching a glimpse of the near-extinct leatherback turtles that have made Miches their home.

“The government has allowed us to build here with the compromise that we will care for this area and protect their habitat,” Sordo said, noting that the resort will become green-certified soon after opening.

Club Med Michés Playa Esmeralda was the very-first resort in the region, opening in 2019, and established there with a commitment to sustainability as a Green Globe Certified Resort, according to Carolyne Doyon, President and CEO of Club Med North America and the Caribbean.

Doyon also noted that the response since then by North American travelers has been positive, “particularly those seeking a secluded and authentic Caribbean experience away from the hustle and bustle of more frequented spots like Punta Cana.”

Resorts in Miches each offer their guests opportunities to explore this part of Dominican Republic’s natural beauty with excursion packages and culture with culinary experiences. Plus, each resort has built its design to reflect its green, earthy surroundings. For clients who are seeking something new and fresh, Miches could be the next hot destination on their bucket list.
