Israel to Launch Electronic Travel Authorizations

Travelers to Israel from visa-exempt countries will soon be able to enter with an electronic travel authorization (ETA-IL).

United States and Germany passport holders can begin to apply for the ETA-IL on June 1, when the program’s pilot phase begins. The new travel certification will allow travelers to process through electronic check-in machines when entering Israel.

“As a tech-forward country, streamlining the entry process with the new online ETA-IL application is a natural progression, and will allow for smoother arrivals and more time for travelers to enjoy all Israel has to offer,” said Eyal Carlin, Commissioner of Tourism to North America for Israel Ministry of Tourism. “While we are currently in a challenging time, we encourage those with an interest in visiting the country to take note of the new entry process as they continue their travel planning.”

The pilot program will extend to all travelers on July 1, and then officially launch on Aug. 1. When travelers are approved for the ETA-IL, they may remain in Israel for up to 90 days. The approval for the ETA-IL expires after two years or when the traveler’s passport expires.
