An Inside Look at Hyatt Vivid Grand Island, in the Heart of Cancun’s Hotel Zone

Opened on April 1, 2024, the Hyatt Vivid Grand Island marks the debut of Hyatt’s Vivid brand, right in the heart of Cancun’s Hotel Zone.

TMR recently experienced the adults-only Inclusive Collection property, from a few of the 10-plus dining venues and the Junior Bay View Suite to yoga and sound bathing classes at the three refreshing pools.

“This resort has a strong personality because of the activities we do,” said Christian Porcayo, the resort’s social media manager, who noted that the Vivid brand is Hyatt’s first targeted to Gen Z. “I would describe it as – it’s lowkey but lively.”

To cater to that new generation of vacationers, Porcayo says the resort has focused closely on wellness, technology, and an engaging schedule of things to do.

Property overview

Entering Hyatt Vivid Grand Island, guests pass by a public 18-hole golf course owned by Iberostar, whose property is right across the road. They are then greeted by a half-indoor, half-outdoor lobby. Vantage Club members have their own check-in area and lounge with high-end liquors, plus other welcome amenities.

The 400-room resort layout is simple to navigate. On the ground floor is the main lobby, main pool, heated pool, cafe, lobby bars, and plenty of seating. By next month, there will also be sports courts and an outdoor terrace bar.

On the next floor up is all food and beverage offerings, including a small cafe, bar, and retail shop, plus plenty of lounge seating. Then there are 11 floors of guestrooms, and a rooftop infinity pool and fitness center with bay views.

Next door, Hyatt is finishing construction on Dreams Grand Island, Vivid’s family-friendly counterpart opening in Q1 2025. That property will have waterslides and other exciting activities geared toward kids. When it opens, there will be a shared spa and convention center between the resorts.

Resort activities

All Vivid guests have access to the private, adult-only Beach Club ENNEA. The beach is a five-minute shuttle ride away, running about every 20 minutes from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The beach club features tiered pools, two bars, and an upstairs restaurant.

On the World of Hyatt Inclusive Collection app, guests may reserve Bali beds at the beach club and find a resort map, restaurant menus, and other details – including the daily activities schedule.

For those interested in wellness, in-pool bikes are set up for daily aqua cycling classes on the rooftop, where there are also morning yoga classes and card games like Texas Hold ‘Em and Mexican Lottery. At the ground floor pool, the resort hosts water aerobics and water volleyball.

Creative minds will enjoy bracelet-making workshops, pottery classes, macrame making, and more. In the evening, there’s a sunset DJ on the rooftop and live music in the lobby bar, followed by a late-night DJ.

The resort can also arrange for culinary experiences, spa treatments, and non-motorized water activities.

Wining and dining

From casual poolside bites to more upscale sit-down meals, guests get a taste of many different palettes dining at Vivid. There are also many options for bars planted conveniently all throughout the resort, including a swim-up bar at the rooftop pool.

Guests can enjoy small bites and coffee at the Coco Cafe, which is open 24/7. For breakfast and lunch, there’s buffet-style dining at Galeria International Cafe. Vantage Club members can also have a la carte breakfast and lunch at Mediterraneo.

At the ground floor pool, there’s also the Fresco Ceviche, The Hub Snack Bar, and Vivid Bites, all serving casual bites. Dinner cuisine includes Aglio (Italian), Le Lys (French), Oishii (Japanese), and, of course, Dalia (Mexican).

Oishii offers a particularly special dining experience – the restaurant is located outdoors on the rooftop with panoramic views of Cancun.

In-room experience

Vivid offers just a few room categories: junior suites and junior deluxe suites, both with the option of bay or golf views; or the premium suite golf view. Those premium suites, for Vantage Club members, are on the top floor, and therefore have ocean views as well.

The rooms all have a natural, minimalistic vibe. Bathrooms are spacious, with double sinks and double rain showers. Other amenities include two sets of robes and slippers, a steamer, and extra linens.

Guests can also expect a well-stocked mini bar and room service available for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. All of this can be enjoyed while sitting on the decently sized balcony and enjoying the view.
