Hilton Accelerates Canadian Expansion Plans

Hilton is on track to expand its hotel portfolio in Canada by 50% over the next five years.

The global hospitality company announced today that it will soon surpass 200 hotels in Canada, and aims to increase its portfolio of hotels by 50% over the next several years.

The company’s pipeline includes approximately 90 hotels and more than 11,000 rooms for Canada, with plans to introduce the brands Spark by Hilton, the company’s economy hotel segment, and Motto by Hilton, a micro-hotel segment, to the country in 2024.

“We are excited about our continued momentum in Canada, as a result of our organic multi-brand, country-wide growth strategy,” said Jeff Cury, senior director of development, Canada, Hilton. “We remain focused on expanding our portfolio to every province across the country with both existing and new-to-market brands and are committed to offering business and leisure travelers robust options in the destinations they want to visit.”

Focused-service brands represent more than 60% of Hilton’s Canada pipeline, with its recent midscale brand Tru set to expand from three hotels to at least 15. Tru, a playful young-at-heart hotel concept first announced in 2016, has grown rapidly to over 250 locations worldwide.

Hilton’s Spark brand, which promises comfortable stays at affordable prices, is adding four new properties in Ontario next year: Spark by Hilton Toronto Markham, Spark by Hilton Oshawa, Spark by Hilton Woodstock, and Spark by Hilton Owen Sound open their doors in 2024.

In the lifestyle category, Hilton plans to triple its presence over the next five years, with new hotels planned in Canada’s top cities for tourism, including Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver, Niagara Falls and more. Revery Toronto Downtown, Curio Collection by Hilton—the second Canadian hotel in Hilton’s upscale luxury brand—is set to open in 2024.

Hilton opened 10 new hotels in Canada in 2023, including the country’s first Canopy by Hilton in Toronto, ending the year with 180 hotels across 11 brands in the country.
