Dresden’s Kulturpalast To Reopen In April

by Maria Lisella / March 15, 2017

Dresden next month will celebrate the rebirth and reinvention of the Kulturpalast, a modernized cultural center with a completely new concert hall at its center.

The Kulturpalast’s architectural history spans many chapters in the city’s history since it was conceived just a few years after the end of World War II. At the time of its debut, it had a capacity of 2,415 people making it the largest event space in the former GDR. Now, with 1,800 seats, the Kulturpalast will be the new home for the Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra.

The new Kulurpalast also houses Dresden’s new central public library shelves for 300,000 media and 450 different spots to read, browse the internet, listen to audio emphasizing Dresden as a city of music. The final piece of the new Kulturpalast’s is the Die Herkuleskeule Cabaret that was first formed in 1961, and is considered one of the best cabarets in Germany.

Only two hours from Berlin, four hours from Frankfurt and 90 minutes from Leipzig, Dresden is a cultural jewel in the heart of the state of Saxony.
